How Worth a Pass works
Worth a Pass exists to answer one question honestly: for your exact Swiss trip, what is the cheapest way to travel - and by how much? No account, no paywall, and no invented numbers.
Where the numbers come from
Point-to-point fares are resolved live from the official Swiss open-transport fare service, so they reflect current pricing for any station pair rather than a hand-maintained table that quietly goes stale. Because that fare service is in beta, we label its prices indicative: they can differ slightly from the point of sale, so confirm the final figure with the operator before booking.
Pass rules, mountain-excursion discounts and scenic-train seat reservations are curated from official operator sources and dated when verified. Fare data is sourced from opentransportdata.swiss.
How the comparison is calculated
A deterministic engine prices each option - Swiss Travel Pass (consecutive and Flex), Half Fare Card, Saver Day Passes (with or without the Half Fare Card), a rental car, and plain tickets - leg by leg against your itinerary. It applies the correct rule per excursion, adds seat reservations that no pass covers, and accounts for the free Swiss Family Card for children. Then it ranks the options cheapest first and shows a per-leg breakdown.
What we will never do
- Invent a price. If a fare or pass price isn’t verified yet, the affected option is shown as “price pending” - never a guessed number.
- Fake social proof. There are no manufactured testimonials or “saved CHF 500” quotes here. The proof is the transparent, per-leg calculation you can check yourself.
- Bury the answer in ads. The recommendation comes first; any booking links are clearly secondary.
